About

I am a scholar of classical material culture specialising in Greek art and material culture, the iconography and visual language of painted Greek pottery, and the reception of Classical antiquity. My research engages Classical archaeology alongside African perspectives on the ancient world, with a particular focus on the reception of classical themes and forms in contemporary African art and the broader reception of Classics in Southern Africa. This work contributes to ongoing discussions around decolonisation, heritage, the ethics and politics of repatriation, cultural memory, and the continued—though reconfigured—relevance of the discipline in contemporary contexts. I have also conducted research on antiquities collections in South Africa, including at the Iziko Museums of South Africa in Cape Town, where I serve as a Research Associate. Alongside my research, I am committed to fostering scholarly networks in Classics across Africa, and to innovative teaching practices that integrate creative methodologies to promote critical and imaginative engagement with both ancient material and present-day issues.
