About

Dr. Idowu Mojeed Alade is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Classics at the University of Ibadan. His research and teaching are intricately interwoven, exploring the rich tapestry of the ancient Greek world with a particular emphasis on Greek religion, mythology, and philosophy. His current research is centered on Platonic philosophy, examining its enduring intellectual questions. This builds upon a sustained scholarly interest in divine representation and narrative, as evidenced by publications on topics such as the symbolism of Aphrodite's golden apples, the devolution of the goddess Gaea, and an ethical-psychological analysis of a Homeric Hymn. Dr. Alade's doctoral work, entitled Correlative Parallels in Greek and Yoruba Great Goddess Traditions, further highlights his research methodology. As an educator, Dr. Alade has extensive experience, having taught a wide array of courses spanning Greek and Latin language, literature, and culture. His teaching portfolio includes specialised courses in Greek Mythology and Religion, Roman Mythology and Religion, and Ancient Greek Philosophy. He has also supervised numerous long essays. Dr. Alade demonstrates a proven commitment to international scholarly dialogue, exemplified by his tenure as an A.G. Leventis Foundation Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Classical Studies, University of London. Actively engaged with the global Classics community, he holds memberships in the ‘Society for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies (UK)’, the ‘International Association of Comparative Mythology’, and the ‘Jocasta Network (Greece)’, among others. Dr. Alade is particularly open to international collaboration in all areas of Classics, especially those aligning with his expertise in Greek religion, mythology, and philosophy.
